Very often, at a group dinner with friends, one of them will demand to see photos of my latest trip or hear the ridiculous stories of my antics on these far flung adventures. I bring out my phone and show them one teeny tiny photo that no one can really see because we’re all lying about not needing bifocals. There’s the inevitable “cool!”, then we move on, and my story of how I slid down an algae covered rock slope in Greenland wearing a backpack full of camera gear, stopping three inches before the ocean goes untold. This substack is an attempt to remedy that problem; namely it gives me a stage for my photos and my stories. A 70s style post-vacation slideshow party if you will, minus the cigarettes and cocktail wieners.

However, not all of my posts will be about travel, nor should they be. I don’t travel non-stop. I create, live, and adventure in my home province of Alberta, Canada. Wilding* is a through line in my life and my art; it’s how I grew up, and it’s how I try to live as a woman in her mid-forties with a camera and a drive to create.

*Wilding: 1. a plant growing uncultivated in the wild either as a native or an escape 2. not domesticated or cultivated
